To be honest, speaking from the point of view as someone who teaches writing where my primary relationship is with students, I don’t really care how much students have learned as long as they’ve learned. Using my framework of “The Writer’s Practice” (the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and habits of mind of writers) I put a lot of weight on student reflections regarding their own learning.
